Teach skiing and/or snowboarding to groups or individuals of all ages and abilities in a low risk and fun learning environment through excellent class management, people skills, teaching skills, technical skills with proper demonstrations and creativity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide clear direction and on-hill instruction to snow sport students.
  • Teach proper technique appropriate to the ability level of each student.
  • Instruct group and private lessons of varying ability and age levels.
  • Maintain personal gear in a safe, functional and attractive condition.
  • Access skill and ability levels and organize groups efficiently.
  • Follow the Responsibility Code and reduce risk for guests on varied terrain in winter weather
  • Promote safety, emphasizing skier responsibility code as top priority.
  • Verify students have proper safety equipment and properly functioning gear.
  • Confirm that guests have purchased a lift ticket before lessons begin.
  • Evaluate and oversee the development of each student's skills.
  • Develop strategies enabling students to reach their individual goals.
  • Supervise children at all times in class.
  • Provide instruction in a professional and effective manner.
  • Connect and communicate with parents and/or chaperones.
  • Inspect and monitor trail conditions to reduce risk for lessons.
  • Report unsafe ski hazards to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Assist students in the loading and unloading of chair lifts & carpet lifts.
  • Wear a clean and tidy uniform while working.
  • Prepare all required records and/or reports for all lessons taught.
  • Attend mandatory staff training and abide by the Staff Handbook
  • Continually learn and update teaching, technical and skiing/snowboarding skills based on PSIA/AASI standards.
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality, and exercise good judgment.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Snow Sports Directors and Managers

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

  • Intermediate to advanced skiing/snowboarding ability required.
  • Effective teaching skills working with children and adults.
  • Act as a role model; motivating and positively influencing students.
  • Be able to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
  • Must be adaptable and willing to learn and improve personal skills.
  • Display mature judgment skills in making decisions.
  • PSIA /AASI certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Basic proficiency with email and internet websites.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent verbal and written communication.

  • Must be mentally attentive and focused at all times.
  • Must be able to adapt to climate and work in extreme weather conditions.

Requirements

Shift Requirements:

  • Frequent evening shifts for school programs and family nights.
  • Frequent weekend and holiday shifts.

Age Requirements:

  • Applicants must be at least age 16.

Other Requirements:

  • Cori / Pro Screen background check required prior to being hired.
  • New hires must complete the Instructor Training Course (ITC), which includes at home work as well as on snow assessments.

Attendance of ski or snowboard clinics required for all instructors.
