The WIC Qualified Nutritionist assists the WIC Coordinator in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nutrition and breastfeeding components for the WIC program including the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program and with technical and administrative support; performs advanced comprehensive nutrition education and assessments with individual counseling and group education for WIC participants, including those with high-risk nutrition conditions
The WIC Qualified Nutritionist position pay is $21.00hour. Monday-Friday, schedule can vary. This is a full time position, 35 hours per week.

The Qualified Nutritionist responsibilities include:
Promotes breastfeeding as the preferred infant feeding method
Conducts a complete nutrition assessment, determines program eligibility and enrolls participants
Conducts a breastfeeding assessment and provides participant –centered counseling which helps a mother initiate breastfeeding, establish a milk supply, exclusively breastfeed and continue breastfeeding
Addresses common breastfeeding concerns, issues breast pumps
Prescribes, tailors, authorizes, issues and reissues all food packages
Provides and documents any basic participant-centered nutrition assessment/education (individual/family sessions and facilitated group discussions) for all participants
Develops, implements, and maintains participant care plans as required
Provides guidance to nutrition staff in collecting nutrition assessment data and providing general participant-centered nutrition education
Provides information for the Local Agency Compliance and Self-Assessment (LACASA)
Provides and documents appropriate referrals to other health and social services agencies for participants
Reviews and approves formula requests requiring medical documentation for participants in consultation with the Health Care Provider
Participates in State, regional and local programs to keep informed of new developments in the field of nutrition
Maintains records in accordance with Federal and State agency requirements
Plans and evaluates methods and materials used in the nutrition education aspects of the program appropriate to the educational level and cultural needs of clients
Attends WIC clinics as needed and assists with clinic preparation – carrying participants’ files, equipment, setting up tables, chairs and computers
Responsible for the safety of NYWIC equipment, EBT cards when in his/her possession and a safe place during lunch hours and/or at night
Conducts program orientation, including explaining program benefits, issuing eWIC card, setting up WIC2GO and providing list of authorized vendors, as needed.
Collects information for the nutrition assessment process, including obtaining anthropometric and hematological data
Minimum Education and Experience:
Preferred:
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN)
OR
Bachelors or Masters degree in Nutrition from an accredited college or university
Preferred:
2 years of experience as a Qualified Nutritionist OR
Masters degree in Nutrition and 1 year experience as a Qualified Nutritionist
Other facts:
Participates in and/or provides support for special program outreach such as Public Health Detailing, classes, support groups, community events, or projects.
On-site attendance is a requirement of this position, and the employee must attend mandatory trainings, some of which may be out of town.
Working hours will correspond to the needs of the participants and the purpose of the program.
The principle of confidentiality applies to all information about program participants and their families.
The employee must assume responsibility for meeting the transportation needs as required by the nature of this position and have a driver’s license that is acceptable to the Agency’s standards.
