Electrical Safety Officer (Subject Matter Expert – SME 1)

Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for an Electrical Safety Officer (SME 1) position at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM.

Salary: $82 - $90/HR.

Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico (ON-SITE)

Citizenship: US citizenship required

Work Schedule: 4-10s

Clearance: Q clearance required (Preferred at time of hire; must be able to obtain and maintain)

🛑 IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Due to the technical complexity and security sensitivity of this role, only candidates with direct, hands-on electrical safety experience in DOE, NNSA, or nuclear Category II/III environments will be considered.

This position supports time-critical mission operations and requires candidates who can operate independently without ramp-up training.

Impact

This position supports critical electrical safety operations within high-security areas of LANL, specifically TA-55 and TA-50. The Electrical Safety Officer will contribute to the implementation and administration of LANL’s Electrical Safety Program, ensuring compliance with stringent safety standards while supporting construction and operational projects essential to national security missions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Administer the LANL Electrical Safety Program as the designated point of contact.
  • Serve as a technical resource for employees and managers concerning electrical safety.
  • Conduct and document incident investigations; analyze root causes and support corrective actions.
  • Perform field inspections to identify and mitigate electrical hazards.
  • Review Integrated Work Documents (IWD) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) plans for compliance and safety.
  • Contribute to the creation and revision of safety policies, standards, and electrical specifications.
  • Support engineering teams with solutions to electrical safety-related technical challenges.
  • Evaluate equipment and service compliance with LANL electrical safety requirements.
  • Perform incident analysis calculations to determine electrical severity.
  • Develop internal documentation to support LANL’s electrical safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 2 years of field experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Solid understanding of NFPA 70E, IEEE, OSHA, and electrical safety principles.
  • Demonstrated experience working in DOE or nuclear Category II/III facility environments .
  • Experience supporting electrical systems such as low voltage AC and DC.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and similar software tools.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Capability to pass Radiological Worker II training and physically access job site conditions.
  • Willingness to travel long-term if necessary.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical, field-based electrical experience.
