Anticipated Annualized Base Compensation: $175,000 - $215,000

Position Summary

The Director of People and Culture is responsible for the overall strategic leadership of The Bishop’s School’s human resources and culture. The role emphasizes fostering a positive, inclusive, high-performing workplace culture that aligns with Bishop’s mission, values and goals. The Director is an empathetic leader responsible for the oversight of the development and implementation of policies, programs and services that support employee relations, employee practices, employee wellness, compensation and benefits, recruitment and orientation, onboarding and offboarding, training and development, retention, legal compliance and procedures, investigations, and communications. The Director acts as a strategic partner to leadership, ensuring the School attracts, develops and retains top talent while promoting employee well-being and organizational effectiveness.

Essential Functions And Specific Duties

  • Align human resources practices with Bishop’s objectives and shape the organizational culture by prioritizing employee wellness and people-focused initiatives
  • Lead the execution and implementation of short- and long-term objectives for people and culture
  • Foster a culture of respect, support and community
  • Develop, manage and administer benefits programs, including all reporting, payroll accounting, negotiations, statistical analysis, claims, reconciliations, audits, COBRA benefits, and compliance
  • Develop, manage and administer compensation initiatives, including balancing market and internal equity considerations
  • Manage and provide guidance and counsel on employee recruitment, selection and hiring, employment, classification, orientation, position description and compensation, employee onboarding, evaluation, retention, discipline, discharge, and labor law compliance
  • Partner with the Dean of Faculty on faculty recruitment, hiring, retention, and recognition
  • Provide leadership and expertise in evaluating current human resources policies and procedures, updating as necessary to ensure compliance with School and legal requirements
  • Support leaders with formulating and driving people strategies to build and maintain high-performing and highly engaged teams
  • Work with leaders to understand their specific resourcing needs, coaching them on people management and talent development to foster employee success
  • Model exemplary leadership and actively develop others on emotional intelligence, active listening, and compassionate decision-making
  • Ensure organizational practices adhere to legal and ethical standards, proactively address compliance risks, and foster a culture of accountability and clarity
  • Conduct, monitor and facilitate timely personnel investigations
  • Design and implement effective performance management, career development, and talent management programs
  • Perform with a collaborative approach, other duties as assigned

An Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Field of study in Human Resources preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience including 5 years in a high-level administrative position
  • SHRM or HRCI certified preferred
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience working in a school environment, preferred
  • Advanced proficiency with Google Workspace and aptitude for learning new technology
  • Advanced knowledge of ADP, preferred
